If you were a pirate, what would you steal?"I wouldn’t steal anything because stealing is wrong. If I had to, I’d steal a caged bird and set it free."

Clara sometimes asks me if I dream. “Course I dream”. I tell her. ”Everybody dreams”. ”But what do you dream about?" she’ll ask. "The same thing everybody dreams about." I tell her. "I dream about where I’m going." She always laughs at that. "But you’re not going anywhere - you’re just wandering about." // That’s not true. Not any more. I have a new destination. My journey is the same as yours, the same as anyone’s. It’s taken me so many years, so many lifetimes, but at last I know where I’m going, where I’ve always been going.
positive lady characters meme → martha jones + powerful moments
THIS IS ACTUALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT.
NO BUT SERIOUSLY. MARTHA IS SO FUCKING HONEST THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SERIES. She loves the Doctor, but he didn’t love her back. And instead of being upset about that, she accepted it. People are allowed to love or not love whoever the fuck they want. And instead of spending her whole life obsessive about him falling I love with her (if you look back on your childhood shows you’ll probably find a few female characters that did that throughout the show) she simply “got out” so that she could move on without hurting anyone, especially herself. We could all learn a shit load of things from Martha.
Martha is amazing. I just love her to bits.
Martha was a character who initially put others’ happiness and trouble before her own. But this moment was her saying “No, I need to help my family right now and I also need to move on.” Everyone wants to stay with the Doctor forever, which is fine. But it’s not what Martha deserved, under the circumstances she & Ten were in. So she got out, and she did it with grace, dignity, & class. She didn’t accuse the Doctor for anything, didn’t regret anything. I love it.
This is still one of the most important moments in the show for me.
Verity Lambert: I tell you, the real revelation for me was Billie Piper.
Russell T Davies: For all of us, for all of us. Bless her!
Verity Lambert: I thought she was just brilliant. The thing about her is that she never seems to stop, she always plays it for real, which is just wonderful.
Russell T Davies: She does that 100% of the day, every day. Never had a bad day with her. Everybody has a tired day or a sleepy day, even the best actors in the world – but never with her. Quite extraordinary, the commitment.
